Baby its cold outside

Here in France the weather has been pretty cold the last few weeks the lowest i think was -11°C. When it is cold outside, using yarn has two benefits, one i make beautiful things and two the project on my lap keeps me warm. So i have a hook in my hand most evenings creating and keeping warm. There is nothing better being by a warm fire with a cosy handmade blanket.

I have crocheted many blankets in the last three years, my first crochet project was a granny ripple baby sized blanket. With granny style crochet, you can make some amazing things. My favorite granny style pattern i have seen is called Gaucho, it's by drops, it is the most amazing poncho, i am waiting for the day somebody asks me to make them one as i don't look good in ponchos

Below are a few of my first projects.

 My granny square block blanket.

My first actual granny square made with 100% merino wool.

This blanket a made to keep in my caravan, but since we camped in the summer my little boy looked so cute with it stays in his cot now.

The great thing about doing granny squares, stripes and ripples that you can go wild with your imagination.

I have an aspiration to make a blaneket with every kind of granny square. In my research for this i have found blog called YARNutopia by Nadia Fuad, and she has a section on her blog called 365 days of granny squares, check it out!! I really think this could make a great year long project. For example, if you start making a few each day from november the first, to november the following year will have enough squares to make blankets as christmas gifts.

This where i leave you untill next time, however i have one question before i go, how do like to keep warm on a cold winters night?
