The end of winter is near. Spring will soon be upon us and i thought it would be a great idea to make Some little sun hats for our little ones aged 0-12 months.
what you will need
DK cotton yarn (i made mine with left over yarn)
4mm crochet hook
scissors
tapestry needle
tape measure
Abbreviations (US terminology)
ch: chain sc: single crochet dc: double crochet
ss: slip stitch rnd: round f/o: fasten off
st(s): stitch(s)
Newborn (to fit head size 13-15 inches)
make a magic circle with 12 dc into the centre. (12)
Rnd 1: ch3, dc into the same st ad the ch 3, 2 dc into the next and every remaining st of the rnd ss to the top of the ch 3 to join (24)
Rnd 2: ch3, dc into the same st ad the ch 3, *1 dc into the next, 2 dc into the next, repeat from * to the end ending with 1 dc, ss to join. (36)
Rnd 3: ch3, dc into the same st ad the ch 3, *1 dc in to the next 2 stitches, 2 dc into the next repeat from * to end, ending with 1 dc onto the last st, ss to join. (48)
At the end of this rnd piece should measure approx. 4 inches.
Rnd 4: ch3, dc into every st around ss to join. (48)
Rnds 5-10: repeat rnd 4. (48)
At the end of rnd 10 piece should measure 5 inches.
Brim girl
Rnd 11: ch3, (working in the front loops only for this rnd),dc into the same st as ch3, * 2 dc into the next st, repeat from * to end, ss to join. (96)
Rnd 12: ch3, 1 dc into every st, ss to join. (96)
Rnd 13: ch1, sc into every st around, ss to join f/o and weave in ends.
Brim boy
Rnd 11: ch3, (working in the front loops only for this rnd),dc into the same st as the ch3, *1 dc into the next, 2 dc into the next st, repeat from to end, ss to join . (72)
Rnd 12: ch3, 1 dc into every st, ss to join. (72)
Rnd 13: ch1, sc into every st around, ss to join f/o and weave in ends. (72)
3-6 months (to fit head size 15-17 inches)
complete rnds 1-3 months for newborn.
Rnd 4: ch 3, dc into the same st as ch3, *1 dc into the next 3 dc, 2 dc into the next st, repeat from * to the end, ss to join. (60)
piece should measure approx. 4.5 inches
Rnd 5: ch3, dc into every st around,ss to join. (84)
Rnds 6-12: repeat rnd 5. (84)
piece should measure approx. 5.5 inches
Brim girl and boy
Rnd 13: See newborn size. You can add and extra row of dc if you feel it needs it.(90/168)
6-12 months (to fit head size 16-19 inches)
complete rnds 1-4 for 3-6 months
Rnd 5: ch3, 1 dc into the next 9 sts, *2 dc into the next,1 dc into the next 10 sts, repeat from * to last increase, 1 dc into the last 5sts (65)
piece should measure approx. 5.25 inches
Rnd 6: ch3, dc into every st around ss to join. (65)
Rnds 7-16: repeat rnd 6. (65)
piece should measure approx. 6.5 inches
Brim girl and boy
Rnd 17: see rnd 11 of the newborn size. (96/144)
Rnds 18-19: ch3, 1 dc into every st around ss to join. (96/144)
Rnd 20: ch 1, sc into every st around ss to join. F/o and weave in your ends. (96/144)
A cute idea would be too make a ch on either side on the your little hat to fasten the bonnet under the chin.
Sorry if there are any inconsistencies on this post, some of the lettering seems to be different sizes and wont change to the size i want.
